Woltjer Engines is a family owned business that has been building engines since 1988. Our daily objective is to build the finest quality engines that can be built. We are constantly finding ways to make more horsepower. Woltjer Engines does not have a racing team because we build all motors equally and enjoy providing all of our customers with the direct knowledge and support they need.
Carl Woltjer
Carl started working on small engines in 1964 when he owned and operated a lawn and garden equipment repair business.
In 1988, he bought a used go-kart for Daniel. Carl took apart the 4-cycle engine and saw numerous ways he thought would improve the engines performance, so he put those ideas into action and rebuilt the motor. Upon Daniel winning his 2nd race, others were interested in having Carl build their motors as well. This was the very early beginning of Woltjer Engines.
After building 4-cycle engines for several years, he began building 2-cycle engines along with going to the track to provide trackside support for his customers. Carl has worked one on one with some notable karting champions: Paul Edwards, Jesse Boyd, The Buhr Family, Patrick Long, Phillip Giebler, Rocky Moran Jr., Danica Patrick, Tony and James Bruncati, Tim O'Brien and of course Carl's sons.
Carl now attends only a few main national events and is currently building engines full-time for Woltjer Engines.
Gary Woltjer
Gary started racing go-karts in 1989 at the age of 11. Some major accomplishments as a driver are as follows:
- 1989 SMKA Champion
- 1992 California State Champion
- 1993 Region 7 Champion
- 1993/1994 back to back IKF Grand National Champion
Gary is now responsible for all aspects of Woltjer Engines K80 program. He continues to work one on one with some of the sports brightest young stars. Gary is also the guy you are most likely to run into at the track. He continues to attend most of the major karting events in the country, providing track-side support to our customers.
Daniel Woltjer
Daniel started racing gokarts in 1988. In 1990 he won his first Duffy. He has spent many weekends at the track and started working on engines along with his dad.
After working a number of years at RLV, he came to work full-time on engines where he became a partner.
Daniel is married to Alisa who also works in the business and they keep busy with their four daughters, which limits track time.
Daniel is responsible for building CR80/85 engines, ICA engines, HPV's and Leopards. He also builds some of the KT100's.
